N.I. Championship Round 6 Results

Postby TJHooker on Sat Jun 23, 2007 6:12 pm

Saturday the 23rd of June saw a turn out of 8 saloons and 4 buggies. The weather started dry but treatened to change throughout the day and eventually did.... before the main finals!

Buggies.

David Adair was in fine form during qualifing as he managed to post the quickest times during all three heats to claim pole position for the final. He didn't have it all his own way as Tom Patterson was leading heat 2 until the final minute! Tim was also going well with his buggy and was on for an estimated 18 laps, which would have been the first for the buggies, before the steering servo failed. Philip Hopper was again driving well and is getting better with every race that passes.

4th Tim Ryans

Buggy Final.

The buggy final was the first to run and the track was completely covered in water. The tricky conditions were causing problems for the drivers. David was soon over taken by both Tom and Philip. Philip then moved into the lead and began to pull away from the other drivers.
After 10 laps David called it a day due to a lack of grip. Tom was starting to suffer with a problem with his engine but carried on and managed to finish the race. Philip drove a perfect race and deserved the win, his first since he has started racing.

Stevie was having a few problems but managed to cliam 4th with David Porter 5th and David Adair 6th. Tom Patterson qualified in 7th with Tim in 8th after an awful day during qualifing with brake problems.

So the A - Final got under way with the track still wet at around 3 p.m. The slippery conditions were causing everybody problems as the drivers tip - toed their way around the track. Mike was able to pull out a small advantage over the chasing pack. The racing was very close throughout the rest of the field with drivers from 2nd through to 7th all on the same lap.
As the race continued the firld started to spread itself out. Mike was still out front with Robert in 2nd. Stevie was in 3rd being chased by David Ported and David Adair.
By the 20 minute mark Daivd Porter and David Adair had managed to get past Steive. John was now starting to close the gap. At the back Tim and Tom were finding it difficult due a badly handling car and a lack of wet weather tyres respectively.
After 30 minutes the race ended and it was yet another race win for Micheal Sloan. Robert finished in 2nd with David Porter the top National driver in 3rd. John was unable to catch and pass Stevie in the closing stages.
